Ever since I'm living in KL...
There's only 1 problem for me... FOOD KNOWLEDGE.
Roti canai = roti kosong?
In Penang, as everybody knows... a FOOD HEAVEN.
So least if I dun speak fluent Hokkien nor a word of Mandarin or even know the roads well, least I still know about the FOOD there.
Since I'm in KL, the "names" for the food, quite confusing to me.
Example Lam Mee, in Penang is bihun mee soup with shredded eggs on top,soup..lil'prawns... In KL, their Lam Mee is Penang's well... LOH MEE!
Hokkien Mee (Prawn Mee), some call it Mee Yoke... in Seremban as well.
In Penang, when you order Hokkien Char, it will gives you bihun mee if only you requested for the big fat noodle, you'll get that..
In KL, you order Hokkien CHar.. *pop* you'll get the big fat noodle.
And the style of cooking a little more to "mun yee mee"... too BLACK SAUCE!
ROJAK!
That's the 1st shocked I got...KL's rojak turns out to be pasembor!
IF it's "rojak buah" then you know what you having...FRUITS!
In Penang, Pasembor is mamak food... included with fried tofu, fried duno what else fill with gravy... (yummy!)
If you want Rojak, you'll get Rojak.. fruits of course.. WITHOUT SPECIFY IT.
Speak of Laksa...
In Penang you want laksa, you'll get assam laksa without question...
Only certain places in Penang, you'll get laksa lemak... (never like that!)
Curry Mee.. is curry mee... (my mum luvs it!)
It's already tragic that in KL they called it Curry Laksa...
However... I nearly fainted that day when I was in Seremban...
I was craving for LAKSA for few days...
And I was visiting my lil'sis in Seremban...
And of course seeing "LAKSA" at a stall.. without hesitate... I went order a bowl...
It came out to be curry mee... very very oily too!!!!
My friends were wondering how come I'll order LAKSA...when they know I don't take curry...
"HOW I KNOW IS CURRY MEE LAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!???"
Lucky enough.. bihun, mee, rice still the same name in the WHOLE WORLD!
And of course... if I want Nasi Tomato...in Penang, I don't need to wait till Ramadhan.. every Thursday, Pasar Malam, here I come!
Food... still, it's filling!
